These smaller botanical studies complement the medicinal botanicals collection, with focus being on individual plants with medicinal properties. 

Papaver somniferum, commonly known as the opium poppy, is the source of important opiates including morphine and codeine, as well as papaverine. A synthetic analogue of papaverine led to the development of verapamil, which is used to treat angina, high blood pressure, and certain cardiac arrhythmias.
